Internship Opportunities with Kansas Action for Children

Kansas Action for Children accepts applications for our internship program on a rolling basis. We offer a paid, part-time position focusing on research and analysis or communications and outreach. We are currently accepting applications for the summer of 2017, but additional opportunities will be available in the upcoming fall and spring semesters (see the chart below).

Who We Are

Kansas Action for Children is a non-profit, non-partisan organization committed to shaping health, education, and economic policy that improves the lives of Kansas children and their families. Fueled by dedication (and coffee), we are a close-knit, hardworking group with a lot of drive. Not only do we have high expectations for legislative processes and policies, but we set even higher standards for ourselves.

What We Expect

First, let’s get technical.

  • Eligible students should have completed at least four semesters of college coursework or be pursuing a graduate degree.
  • Interns will be expected to work between 10 and 20 hours per week, depending on their schedules and availability.
  • Interns will be based in our Topeka office, with occasional opportunities to work from home or school.

We are seeking individuals who want to help us make Kansas the best place to be a kid. An interest in advocacy and/or the non-profit field is preferred. An innovative mindset, strong initiative, and an ambitious desire for self-improvement are some of the qualities we want our interns to possess.

What You’ll Learn

Our interns are treated as permanent members of the KAC team and will have the opportunity to gain experience in nearly every aspect of what we do. Intern tasks may include collecting data, conducting research, writing blog posts or reports on state policy issues, monitoring legislative developments, communicating with supporters and partner organizations, managing social media accounts, and helping to organize events.

To apply, please send a cover letter explaining your interest, qualifications, and preferred track (research and analysis or communications and outreach), a resume or CV, and a writing sample of no more than 10 pages to kac@kac.org by November 15, 2017. Please include “Internship” in the subject line.
